[编辑]德士古是一家营利性的公司，而公司有一个内部图书馆并聘请了许多科学家。德士古订阅了美国地球物理联盟(AGU)的期刊，这是一家出版多种期刊的学会。德士古还从版权结算中心(CCC)购买了一份复印许可证，即该中心向研究机构颁发的(期刊)学术内容复印许可证。[3]与许多拥有内部图书馆的公司一样，德士古就将AGU所出版的期刊内容文章复印发送给员工。
